THE MOOT COURT COMMITTEE

PREAMBLE:

This Constitution proposes to regulate mooting at Vydehi Institute of Law, Bengaluru, in a just and fair manner while facilitating such activities in the unsurpassable possible way.

EXTENT:

This Constitution shall extend to all students and staff of Vydehi Institute of Law, Bengaluru.

COMPOSITION:

The Committee shall consist of a Faculty Convenor and Members comprising both student and Faculty.

TENURE OF THE COMMITTEE :

The tenure of the Committee shall be for one academic year, post which, it shall be freshly constituted.

NUMBER OF MEMBERS :

The Committee shall consist of 04 members as per the following composition:

  • Faculty Convenor.
  • Faculty Member
  • Student Members
REMOVAL OF MEMBERS:
  • Members can be removed for violation of rules and regulations of the committee.
  • Members shall be removed by voting procedure and final decision will be of the Faculty Convenor.

GROUNDS FOR SUSPENSION AND TERMINATION OF MEMBERSHIP:

Any member will be suspended and or terminated if:

  • Anyone is found engaging in activities violating the provisions of this constitution.
  • Anyone who does not appear for any two consecutive meetings without prior notice to office bearers.
RESIGNATION OF MEMBERSHIP:

Any of the members can wilfully resign by providing it in written form mentioning the grounds to the Faculty Convenor. The Faculty Convenor may or may not accept it.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
  • Organisation of selections for Moot Court Competitions:
    The Moot Court Committee shall organize and take responsibility for all moot court competitions held within the Institution exclusively for students of the Institution. The Committee shall take initiatives for the development of moot court activities in the Institution.
  • Organisation of National and International Moot Court Competitions:
    The Committee shall organize all moot court competitions inviting participation from other universities. Such competitions shall include those which are hosted by the institution independently and those hosted in association with other agencies.
  • Maintenance of Annual Report:
    The Convener shall submit an annual report to IQAC stating the performance of the Institution in various moot court competitions and the performance of the Committee in general, whenever required.

FISCAL FUNCTIONS OF THE COMMITTEE :

The Moot Court Committee will prepare an annual budget of all financial expenses to be incurred during the academic year. The records of such expenses shall be maintained on a regular basis.

POWER OF THE COMMITTEE:
  • It shall be the sole discretion of the Committee to select the moot court competitions in
    which the Institution may participate.
  • The Committee shall have the sole authority to regulate all moot court activities of the Institution.
  • The Committee shall have the power to impose a reasonable penalty on any team or individual participating in an internal or external moot court competition, in accordance with the regulations framed by the Committee.
  • The Committee shall have the power to issue notifications in order to regulate moot court activities in the Institution.
DUTIES OF THE COMMITTEE :

It shall be the duty of the Committee to ensure transparent, fair and non-arbitrary execution of all its functions incorporated under this constitution.

COMPOSITION OF THE COMMITTEE:

Member- Dr. Sahana

COMMITTEE MEETINGS:

The Committee shall ordinarily conduct a meeting for all members. Attendance to such meetings shall be compulsory for all members.
